Each year over 10,000 former gang members from across Los Angeles come through Homeboy Industries’ doors in an effort to make a positive change. About Homeboy Industries Employment counselors at Homeboy play an important role as they act as intermediaries between employers, trainees and community clients. All cookies, cakes, tortes, rum balls, kugelhopf bundt cakes, chocolate chip cookies, granola, jams, preserves, coffee, are baked or made from scratch at the Homeboy bakery fresh every morning.

That later became Homeboy Industries, a company with free services and programs such as job-training sites in bakeries, recycling and a silkscreen shop, plus Homeboy … The goal is to provide support and services so that these men and women can redirect their lives and become contributing members of society. On March 4th, 2020 Service Learning Leadership made its annual visit to Homeboy Industries, a nonprofit organization in Los Angeles founded by Father Gregory Boyle that aims to provide hope, support, and love to improve the lives of former gang members. Homeboy Electronics Recycling, part of Homeboy Industries, was founded nearly seven years ago with the mission of boosting the recycling rates of digital gadgets that too often get tossed in the trash — and in the process, creating good jobs for people who face employment barriers, including felons and former gang members.

Our Homeboy Industries Legal Services team works closely with trainees on a variety of issues ranging from managing suspended driver’s licenses to family reunification. While at Homeboy, SLL members were given tours by current Homeboy Close to 12,000 people walk through it doors every year, seeking services and a path out of gang life. Homeboy Industries is in partnership with local WorkSource Centers to assist our participants with work related supportive services such as uniform, transportation, work tools, etc. Located in gang-neutral territory in Downtown Los Angeles, Homeboy Industries’ headquarters are home to social enterprises that provide job training as well as a multitude of free services for those in need. Products with a purpose made fresh daily using only natural ingredients. Homeboy Industries is a youth development program based in Los Angeles, CA that was founded in 2000. They are welcomed into a community of mutual kinship, love, and a wide variety of services ranging from tattoo removal to anger management and parenting classes. We have stood with those whose dignity has been denied. As of 2019 they had $18 million in revenue and $13 million in assets. Tattoo removal is a free service provided to participants in the Homeboy Industries’ program (trainees), members of the Los Angeles community, and minors who have gang-related or visible tattoos located on the hands, neck, or face. Homeboy Industries has been forced to shut their doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but that hasn't stopped Father Greg from supporting and helping those in the program who need him. Homeboy Industries (HBI), established by Father Gregory Boyle, S.J., has evolved into a model program of gang intervention services for inner-city youth, offering alternatives to gang violence in one of the toughest areas in Los Angles.
